- <p> DIED. STEWART GRANGER, 80, swashbuckling star of more than 60
- films; in Santa Monica, California. Born James Lablanche Stewart
- in Britain, where he began his career in repertory theater,
- Granger became one of the country's leading romantic actors
- before arriving in Hollywood in 1950. He changed his name to
- avoid confusion with Jimmy Stewart, and played opposite many
- of Hollywood's most glamorous actresses, including Vivien Leigh,
- Ava Gardner, Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor. Among his films
- are King Solomon's Mines (1950), The Prisoner of Zenda (1952)
- and Beau Brummell (1954).
